Latest update there from Byron York:

I just talked to another source in the Romney camp about the possibility that Romney is preparing to pull out of the race. "I think you pretty much nailed it," he told me. "You might also note that there have been no media buys placed since Super Tuesday. The radio silence is deafening. Go to CPAC. I would highly recommend it."

Okay, I'm not a Romney fan by any stretch of the imagination... But the man is some eye candy 4-sure.

Plus, I'm watching him hold a baby and he's totally natural with it. I mean, I know, 5 kids and 11 grandkids... but that doesn't mean a person was INVOLVED or anything.

But, yeah, he's a hot old guy. I'll admit it, I'm a sucker for arrogance and power. Wishy-washy hug the world men just don't do it for me.

#6 papijoe at 9:36 am on Feb 07, 2008

If Romney bails I'll never support him again. It was tough enough after the way he beat cheeks out of MA.

Well, AFG is way hotter, doncha think RWC? :)

Plus, AFG gets to pack heat. Yummy, yummy, yummy I'm thinking of making a "Hot Guys With Guns" calender. If I do, I'll be sure to put aside one for throb and Stormi. Everyone else interested needs to place orders.

"If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or (Barack) Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror," Romney planned to say in a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference.

"This is not an easy decision for me. I hate to lose. My family, my friends and our supporters ... many of you right here in this room ... have given a great deal to get me where I have a shot at becoming president. If this were only about me, I would go on. But I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America, I feel I must now stand aside, for our party and for our country."

Good grief.

That was a bad decision on his part, imo.

#10 solus rex at 9:48 am on Feb 07, 2008

The only reason to support Romney was to stop McCain. This being moot (?), good riddance.

Maybe after four years of Hussein/Michelle (any doubt she plans to eventually run herself?) nightmare, a credible alternative would emerge.

Conspicuously placing the party first.

I'm watching his speech right now, and if he had spoken like this before and often, I think he'd have kicked McCain's ass.

#14 bluebeard at 9:54 am on Feb 07, 2008

Yup, Ron Paul is looking better all the time.

Sure and by then we'll have Susan Estrich and Marion Barry for Supreme Court Justices.

So is Perez Musharraf. But drinking the blood of the innocent and/or hiding a hideous portrait in one's attic does not a great leader make.

An index of how things are going today is that Romney’s biggest booster, my good friend Auster, has not posted anything at his blog since 08:25. It’s now 11:24.

Since Paul is the only conservative left standing, Auster has no choice but to start pimping him.

Watch this space to see Solex Rus' head explode.

#20 solus rex at 11:36 am on Feb 07, 2008

Clearly, little man, you're overestimating my disinvestment into your little man's ridiculous candidacy.

#21 floranista at 12:14 pm on Feb 07, 2008

solus, lol!

C-Span is so f@#$%ed up. I was watching Cheney wrap up his speech and McCain was up next. The audio and video worked just fine throughout.
Now McCain is due up and all the sudden they have "problems" and put on substitute programming of a book review.

Frickin' putzes.

#22 floranista at 12:16 pm on Feb 07, 2008

I meant to include, I was watching the CPAC convention.

#23 floranista at 12:17 pm on Feb 07, 2008

Where the participants were reportedly told not to boo McCain.

#24 floranista at 12:52 pm on Feb 07, 2008

McCain was well-received until he started talking about his differences with CPAC members and he mentioned illegal immigration. The boos were loud and sustained.

#25 airforcewife at 12:58 pm on Feb 07, 2008

That's interesting, florrie. I was just looking for a report about his reception. I read the text of his speech just now, and I'm not sure why they were booing. He wasn't saying that he was RIGHT, he said that he was doing what he thought was best and apparently that is not how America saw what he tried.

He really did seem to be trying to reach out. I think that they had those boos saved up and when they heard "immigration" the boos broke out. There's some very frustrated people.

**should be taken as an analysis, not an apology on my parts.

He really beleives that. That's what makes him so dangerous.

#29 levi from queens at 1:07 pm on Feb 07, 2008

2:34 - A few boos on immigration, but a lot of cheers and a laugh from McCain. He says he respects the opposition because it was based in an honorable defense of the rule of law. He now understands that no one will trust Washington on immigration until they actually secure the border.

lol, then I must need new ears, levi. I didn't hear any cheers during that segment!

But, like afw said, he was indeed reaching out in what appeared to be a very sincere way and had a great reception otherwise.

I wonder if mike placement made a difference. I wouldn't think Malkin and Cap'n Ed would both say the same thing if there weren't something to it.

levi, all I can say is I watched it live on C-Span. I didn't hear any cheers during that segment and the boos went on for a good 15-20 seconds - which is sustained, in my opinion.

All in all, he got a very warm reception.

...it's to the Republican side.

I worked out how everybody could be correct. Apparently the strong McCain supporters sat in the front and the booers in the rear (per Malkin). A person in the front row might think that the boos were overcome by the cheerers. A mike three-quarters of the way back would probably not even pick up any of the cheers.
