OMG! I just read the first quote from Roseanne on the Jews and Israel and it is just sickening. I'm appalled. I had no idea at all that she is like this. I know most entertainers are moonbats, but this is nearer Nazi than anything even on the extreme left.

Roseanne was born in Salt Lake City and spent much of her early life there. So she and the Mormons go back a-ways.

On April 6, 2007 Barr made a controversial statement about gay activists during her show on California's KCAA radio. [2] Barr commented that putting measures like gay marriage on ballots for elections only hurts the gay rights cause and elects more conservative politicians. Barr went on to say "And I have never once --and I say I have gay and lesbian people in my family -- never once in my 54 years have I ever once heard a gay or lesbian person who’s politically active say one thing about anything that was not about them. They don’t care about minimum wage, they don’t care about any other group other than their own self because you know, some people say being gay and lesbian is a totally narcissistic thing and sometimes I wonder. I’ve never heard any of them say anything except for “accept me ‘cause I’m gay.” It’s just, it’s screwed. " [3]

Barr later apologized twice on her official online blog stating, "I deeply regret that I have offended gay people. I said things that I do not really mean, before I had thought them through... I was wrong and I seriously apologize! Call me up today and let me have it! I will apologize and try to make clear what I really meant to say... which was that everybody needs to unite right now, and step outside of their own neighborhoods, groups, races and classes to stop Bush's war on our country and our people. I love gays and I hate division. I am just a big idiot with a big mouth sometimes. I will learn to be more careful! Please forgive me, I am so sorry!!!!" [4] [5]. Barr continued to state in further online posts that she believes gays need to unite against those who try to oppress them. "Let's all leave our own bedrooms, kitchens, neighborhoods and groups and meet each other to form a diverse army that stands for Democracy and Economic Justice!"

In a 1991 interview with People, Roseanne claimed to be an incest survivor, accusing both of her parents of physical and sexual abuse, charges which they and her sister Geraldine publicly deny. During the time of Barr's related accusations--aimed primarily at her father--she had been undergoing repressed memory therapy, and controversal therapeutic technique that has since been universally disavowed by the psychological community. Both her siblings and parents denied the charges, and lie detector tests used on Roseanne's parents came back with negative results. The court battles led to years of estrangement with her parents and siblings. Barr's accusations are now widely considered to have been false, situating Barr as a victim of False Memory Syndrome. During this time, Barr also claimed to have multiple personality disorder and other mental illnesses. Geraldine later sold stories to the tabloids calling Roseanne a liar and accusing her of making up the story to boost her show's ratings, perhaps adding evidence to the False Memory Syndrome origin of the accusations. Geraldine also accused Roseanne of "unfairly" firing her from the cast of the show and claiming that Roseanne "owed" her half of the show's profits.

I also think it's silly to expect all Jews to think alike. Do all Americans, Italians or Greeks think alike? If I criticize Greeks and Greece, am I a self-hating Greek?

I think Roseanne Barr (and many others, Jewish or not) want to appear progressive and liberal as they ride around in their Rolls-Royces and see criticizing Israel as part of being hip and trendy, like European chic. And of course by trumping out their Jewish identity (whether they really have grown up Jewish or not) gives them validation.

Zorkie, you have a valid point, but still, there is a "Jewish self-hate" syndrome. I think it's more common in Roseanne's generation and perhaps the generation above. It presents itself as a resentment against the Jewish religion and/or people and/or one's parents for making one be born Jewish. It springs very often from the discrimination against Jews that used to be acceptable even in civilised society. Together with the self-hate (or more accurately, Jewish antisemitism) comes strong anti-Zionism.

Nowadays such anti-Jewish discrimination is not tolerated any more although of course anti-Zionism is almost de rigeur in certain circles . Therefore amongst youngsters Jewish self-hatred is rarer, simply because it's quite acceptable (sadly) to be anti-Israel while being Jewish is quite acceptable at the same time.

But other than that.. She immersed herself in making fun of her life as white trash, and now is trying to prove that, indeed, SHE'S the only trailer park alumnus that has any brains!!! She's smart! And somehow that means her opinions matter.
