Dec. 29, 2006 - In a highly unusual move, Sen. Barbara Boxer of California has rescinded an award to an Islamic activist in her home state because of the man’s connections to a major American Muslim organization that recently has been courted by leading political figures and even the FBI.

Boxer’s office confirmed to NEWSWEEK that she has withdrawn a “certificate of accomplishment” to Sacramento activist Basim Elkarra after learning that he serves as an official with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). After directing her staff to look into CAIR, Boxer “expressed concern” about some past statements and actions by the group, as well as assertions by some law enforcement officials that it “gives aid to international terrorist groups,” according to Natalie Ravitz, the senator’s press spokeswoman.

Hey, what a nice surprise.

And a great contrast to George Bush's feckless ass-kissing of CAIR.

I'd like to know how much of CAIR's financing comes from the Saudis. If it is substantial, therein may lay the reason for the long leash the administration grants CAIR

Clinton's (in)famous "Sistah Souljah" moment was completely calculated and phony; I hope this "moment" is a sign of genuine enlightenment. As long as the government sees the light regarding CAIR and their fellow travelers, I don't care which party is responsible.

These is a real turning point, if membership in CAIR is, all by itself, considered problematic. If only the Canadian situation were as promising - the hoptoad mouthpiece here for CAIR-CAN seems to be the token Muslim all reporters hit for a comment on anything. The only good thing is how hopelessly obvious she is. She is an expert at the "we're very sorry if the latest atrocity might cause Canadians to commit hate crimes against peace loving Muslims" but she does it so nakedly that it's pretty shameless.
