Some of the commissioners actually wanted to add 19 more characters to represent the deaths of the 19 terrorist murderers who killed the victims.
The commissioner interviewed, Paul Eppinger, defends it wholeheartedly, claiming that the inscription about "Middle East Violence Causes Attacks" reflects the "fact" that "our foreign policy for years has focused on total support of Israel."
My own home town, I'm sorry to say, instituted a "Diversity Festival" after 9/11, apparently thinking that enjoying Mexican food, Chinese Dancers, Wiccans in strange costumes (they're always big at these events) and people playing African drums would defuse the WoT. Oh, yes, and lots of people from the local mosque, explaining Islam to the crowds.
They also instituted a "Patriot's Day"---which has, strangely enough, vanished. "Diversity Day" is still going strong, however.

In ancient times, hundreds of years before the
dawn of history.
There lived a strange race of people...the Druids.
No one knows who they were, or what they were doing...
but their legacy remains...
hewn into the living rock of Stonehenge...
Stonehenge, where the demons dwell
Where the banshees live and they do live well
Stonehenge
Where a man is a man and the children dance to
the pipes of pan
Stonehenge
Tis a magic place where the moon doth rise
With a dragon's face
Stonehenge
Where the virgins lie
And the prayer of devils fill the midnight sky
And you my love, won't you take my hand
We'll go back in time to that mystic land
Where the dew drops cry and the cats meow
I will take you there
I will show you how

A few issues with this so-called festival-
Mexican food- Might not be acceptable. I guess it's okay as long as it's not pork tamales, or anything cooked with pork fat, or non-halal meat.
Wiccans- Definitely not acceptable- too many issues to comment on. But then again, they will provide entertainment when we have a good old-fashioned witch stoning.
Drums-- may or may not be allowed. Depends on what school of Islamic jurisprudence we're using the day.

WTF? But hell, why should I be surprised? Check this out.
From packen's link...
It always cracks me up to hear numbskulls insulting Bush's intelligence. I wonder just where Barrett found his IQ research. Oh yeah...
Just give it a few more years.
I predict, the Left is going to want to re-name 9/11, "The Glorious 19 Day", or, maybe, "solidarity with Islam Day."
These people aren't gonna stop till they're stopped.
