Here is the response, yesterday, from a Thai acquaintance of mine in Bangkok, that I contacted, expressing concern, upon hearing the news of the coup:
Hi Xxxxxxx
Thank you very much for your concern, I hope also that Xxxx is doing better. We are all fine in Thailand and think that the coup will be for the better in the end. The ousted prime minister Thaskin, also in NY along with Ahmadinejad, is a crook and a selfish man. The generals have vowed allegiance to our Honorable King, it has been non violent coup de ta to date. There was no real democracy here, so nothing has been lost, except the inconvenience of a transition to a better government, which was not going to be possible under Thaskin as he bought and sold votes with his billion dollar fortune. Most of us in Bangkok, were in opposition to his style of leadership. I do not like the news black out and martial law, but hopefully within days all will be normal again, without bloodshed, we pray. Thank you so much for your caring thoughts, our best wishes....
Xxxxxx
Apparently, the urban people are not distressed by this event. Not sure about the the rural areas, particlualry the southern parts of the country, but I will ask today, which is evening in Bangkok, 6:30 PM or so about now.

Here's where you should find my Thai-Coup Haiku, but I'm too lazy to write one today.
Is that like Tai-Bo?
Just FYI...an on the scene comment from Thailand.
