Asylum for Isaac Schrödinger: Let Him Stay!
Isaac Schrödinger, a frequent commenter here and a fine blogger, is a Pakistani apostate from Islam, studying in Canada. He became an apostate in Canada, and is now fighting to obtain asylum and be allowed to remain there—for as we know too well, apostates from Islam are punished by death, and in general, the punishment is administered as gruesomely as possible. “No compulsion in religion”, my foot.

Unfortunately, he is having difficulty putting his case across to unsympathetic immigration bureaucrats, as he engagingly narrates here.
"PAKISTAN, Punjab, Lahore

Fear is unspecified/unclear

appears to fear persecution because of his anti-Islamic views."
Yikes! Can you imagine your life hanging by a tenuous thread, awaiting the decision of one whose first impression is that your fear is “unspecified/unclear”? To think that your life hinges on the favor of an indifferent bureaucracy. It doesn’t exactly inspire a spring in Isaac’s step, understandably. As an apostate from Islam myself, I would be dismayed and terrified, to say the least.

He has until a date in January to file documents bolstering his case, and he intends to make good use of it.

Fortunately, a lot of people in the blogosphere have jumped to Isaac’s side, offering any and all support that he might need in pleading his case. We are standing with Isaac as well, and I would like to offer him whatever assistance I’m capable of giving. I will be keeping a close eye on his case.

If Canada can find room for such a vile collection of parasites as the Khadr family, surely there is room in that great nation for a man like Isaac Schrödinger, who legitimately fears for his life.

I believe Isaac has a strong and legitimate case for asylum, and we must do everything we can to help him stay in a civilized country. Any country should be honored to have someone like him. Canada must not squander the chance to keep him.

I didn't know that IS was in Canada. The Khadr clan are an absolute disgrace. At least our new (Conservative) foreign minister denied the latest passport application from one of their terrorist offspring.

Good luck Isaac, as a Canadian, I hope you are allowed to stay here.
#4 annie at 10:26 pm on Sep 09, 2006
Good luck Isaac! If Canada doesn't approve your request, can you not try the US instead? I think they'd be more open to your asylum reqeust.

Alternatively, can't you just declare jihad on Canada and threaten all and sundry with death fatwas - then you're sure to be approved.

/only half kidding though I know this is no joking matter.

I am pulling for Isaac as well. I've always enjoyed/been impressed by his comments here and wherever else I've seen them. Hopefully the dumb beaurocrats will see the obvious. I wish there were something I could do to help.

I think "fear of sharia" should be a legitimate reason to seek asylum anywhere in the free world.
#7 evariste at 10:31 pm on Sep 09, 2006
Isaac is working on a longer-form treatment of his case and would like advice from everyone when he posts it. I'll link to it as soon as I see it, and hopefully we can figure out ways to help him.

If I was on whichever board reviews Isaac's application, I would grant him asylum based on his sense of humour alone :-) Canada needs all the funny people it can get (no offense Canada, but with the snow and all...)

So fear Allah Taala, kafir!

Isaac -

Do a formal Jewish conversion and rest on religious hatred for your asylum application.

If that fails, you can gain entry to Israel.

Unfortunately, you're right--if he was applying for asylum because of fear of retribution for his radical Islamic views, I bet he'd be approved in a heartbeat. This really makes me wonder about the person who rejected the application, unsympathetic or seriously ignorant?

Good luck, Isaac, and keep us posted!

Jesus, I wish I knew what I could do that would help.

I think this issue, asylum for murtad deserves to be widely publicized and discussed! If this isn't the most clear-cut sort of case for political asylum then nothing is.

If officials are shirking their responsibility to save people from violent oppression, that needs exposure and lots of it!

I'm dead broke, but I'm making a small contribution.

You should make the "donate" text on your web site bigger, and you should use the standard paypal picture so that people know how it's going to work, I had to look few times before I realized.

That's not funny.

On topic, sorta - I need to go to bed. I was seriously thinking that if a Pakistani names his son Isaac Schrodinger, he shouldn't be surprised if said son doesn't really fit in at the local madrassah. Gonna have a glass of red wine, read more Brad Thor, count my blessings and go to sleep.
#47 Josh Scholar at 6:56 pm on Sep 10, 2006
Trillian, it's a psuedonym, as befits someone espousing beliefs likely to get him killed.

Perhaps those of us who aren't as interested as Trillian in mocking the man might consider donating?
#48 Dances With Typos at 6:59 pm on Sep 10, 2006

I really doubt that Trillian was mocking Isaac in any way.

Take a deep breath and reread, Josh dear. It was an admittedly wee joke, but if the mere thought of a Pakistani named Isaac Schrodinger doesn't bring a ghost of a smile to your face, you have a heart of stone.

I'm not in the least mocking IS, and I think he knows that; but I can certainly understand how on such a charged topic, when the stakes are so high, things can be misinterpreted, so I don't at all mind restating that poking fun at this sad situation is the last thing I'd do. I've just skimmed his blog and am awed by his experiences, courage and humour.

I got a similar comment in this post:
Hey man,

It's hard to muster up much sympathy for you since you've thrown in your lot with rabidly anti-immigrant and xenophobic factions in the United States and Canada.

You've also polluted your own well to the extent that you're now afraid to return to your home country for fear that you'll be stoned to death.

The only people who would be likely to come to your defense are the liberals. But you've written so many articles in favor of US-sponsored deathsquad dictatorships that it's probably a good thing for you to return to a US-sponsored deathsquad dictatorship.

You made your bed, now lie in it.

You know what I did when I finished reading that? I politely laughed and went on.

Life deals one enough misery as it is, why would I want to engage in more of it?

Even more to the point, why is it so easy for moonbats to wish such a terrible fate on people who believe differently to them. Why is it that they are prepared to tolerate dictatorships, torture and closed borders for other people but never for themselves?

I alos welcome "intellectually serious arguments" from them but they are so rare.
