You may recall that Northern Europeans evolved their light-colored skins to make it easier to produce Vitamin D from the sparser sunlight at the higher latitudes.
But the people who live at the highest latitudes, the Inuit (Eskimos) have fairly dark skin. It wasn't until very recently that scientists were able to explain this analomy. A substantial proportion of the traditional Inuit diet is the flesh of marine mammals. It turns out that sea mammal flesh is very rich in Vitamin D. Thus it is likely that the Inuit never experienced a deficiency in Vitamin D which would trigger the evolutionary process to lighten their skin.
And it's so funny I feel impelled to post it here:
What is a FAQ?
You see, when a mommy and a daddy really love each other, sometimes they kiss and hug each other at night with all their clothes off, in their bedroom. Well, some mommys and daddys like to do it in the daytime, too, on the kitchen counter. We call those people "homosexuals", and they make the baby Jesus cry.

Heh. Well, that gives me an idea for an addition to the FAQ. It will be the second question.
