Musharraf hits back at Karzai

Hamid Karzai made some highly critical remarks on Pakistan's fealty and effectiveness in the war on terror, a fealty which is known to be highly suspect given that their ISI nurtured the Taliban and given their eagerness to sell nuclear secrets to anyone who comes along. This was a hard blow for Mushy to take, especially just before his visit from President Bush, so he's striking back. Read it; his game is weak.

Who wants to bet that Bush and Karzai coordinated the damaging revelations just ahead of Bush's surprise visit to Afghanistan, in order to put pressure on Musharraf? It seems to have had a somewhat useful effect, in that Mr. Duplicity, Pervez Musharraf, is being forced to react and defend himself on the world stage ahead of his photo-op with Bush. Bush isn't really that concerned with Mush; his main purpose for the visit is to try and seal a deal with India over our proposed assistance to its nuclear program. Musharraf is a footnote.

Trying desperately to seem relevant, the Pakistanis are feeding a credulous ABC News a scoop about some Pakistani Al Qaeda terrorist who is supposedly planning a major attack on the United States, and whom Pakistan is pursuing vigorously. I find it hard to believe that he just coincidentally happens to share a name with a Bangladeshi whom Pakistanis hate, and can't be found in any terrorism database. Maybe the guy really exists and really is some wannabe Binnie, but I find the prospect dubious. In another example of "just-in-time positive Pakistani publicity", Pakistani troops just killed 45 "foreigners" on the Waziristan/Afghanistan border. How remarkably convenient.

I don't buy Pakistan's clumsy propaganda for a minute. I doubt President Bush does, either.

India, U.S. move closer with nuclear deal breakthrough

Did Musharraf just give us permission to mine the entire Afghan/ Pakistan border? Is that feasible. I would bet that you could have a formidable effect with just mining secondary passages. Princess Diana might be opposed.

Well, it must have had some effect.
