Keeping It In The Family
In the Iraqi daily Ad Dustour (The Journal) is this report Monday:
The Mujahideen Consultancy Council in Fallujah has accused US forces of arresting the wives of a number of the men in the resistance movement. A spokesman said the MCC also had certain information that would prove US forces had assaulted a number of villages near Fallujah to which Fallujans had fled. Then a campaign of arrests was launched in which a number of fighters' wives were arrested. Now, the MCC is sure that 23 women have been arrested to force their husbands to turn themselves in.
Hmm. I don't know how wise this is. The women might get killed as soon as they're released because their honor has been stained. Interesting way to put pressure on them, for sure. By the way, I know "Mujahideen Consultancy Council" sounds pretty outrageous; it's a clumsy translation that by being too literal masks the meaning. It just means "Mujahideen Parliament" or whatever. The Russians have substantially the same idea...

Yemeni Bourgeoisie, Clerisy Support Killing Americans
Earlier this month I blogged some Saudi clerics who fatwa'ed that people should go kill Americans in Iraq. A group of Yemeni clerics and upstanding citizens agrees; Americans must die.
A group of Yemeni clerics has endorsed this month’s call by 26 Saudi clerics to support the insurgency in Iraq and regard attacks on the US-led forces as legitimate resistance.

The Yemeni move is the latest call in a debate among Islamic clerics over what line to take on the conflict in Iraq, which many Arabs regard as a struggle against US-led occupation.

A group of 26 Yemeni clerics, including an alleged supporter of the Al Qaida terror network, issued a reprint of the Saudi text of November 6 and said that it “came on time? and they blessed its authors.

“We can only support what came in this statement,? the Yemeni clerics added in their statement.

Foremost among the 26 Yemenis who signed this week’s statement is the cleric Abdulmajid Al Zindani. The United States lists him as an Al Qaida supporter.

Other signatories include a former Cabinet minister, a lawmaker, a judge and professors of the Al Eman University.
"Yemen is a US ally in the blah on blah blah".

An Unnatural Expression
No smiling! Open your eyes! Wider! Now frown! Frown more! I said do not smile, you possible terrorist suspect! And no looking about and shrugging!
Imagine being denied a passport for, of all things, your teeth. It could happen, but not because they're crooked. Under new rules for visa photographs that began this summer, the State Department doesn't want to see them at all, according to a story published in Sunday's Pittsburgh-Post Gazette.

The new guidelines permit people to smile for passport and visa pictures but frown on toothy smiles, which apparently are classified as unusual or unnatural expressions.

"The subject's expression should be neutral (non-smiling) with both eyes open, and mouth closed. A smile with a closed jaw is allowed but is not preferred," according to the guidelines.

The Madrassas
In the struggle for the soul of Islam, few things are as important as education reform. Terrorists can be defeated in Iraq and Afghanistan, but if nothing is done to end the intolerance and the teaching of hard-line Islam in classrooms, militants will have a never-ending supply of new recruits. Nowhere is this more evident than in Pakistan, whose schools were described as "incubators for violent extremism" by the Sept. 11 commission.

Little has changed inside the Darul Uloom Haqqania madrassa, where Maulana Samiul Haq still preaches the same anti-American rhetoric and praises Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

"He is a brave and courageous man," says Samiul, the madrassa leader who scoffs at the idea of government reform at the school. "We will remain here no matter what."

At public schools in Karachi, children as young as 5th graders still learn about the glories of jihad and martyrdom in textbooks the government approves. One 9th-grade student told a Tribune reporter that he dreamed of going to fight in a jihad when he grows up, if he could get his mother's blessing.

Pakistani Perfidy Continues Apace
The US-trained Afghan border-fort fighters are furious at Pakistan and speaking out...
The commander said Pakistani militia men, who man the frontier a few hundred metres away, had helped the Taliban recover their dead and wounded, and his men had once killed a Pakistani militia man who had joined in an attack.

He said he had been instructed not to speak to the press by the people from Chapman, the US base for the CIA, special forces and other publicity-shy secret warriors who recruited, trained, and armed the 1 000-strong mercenary army manning the border forts to which Rahman belongs.

But he was boiling with anger and spoke anyway.

"Our intelligence told us that the attackers were all Pakistanis and they were paid 5 000 rupees each.

"They were Haqqani's men. Everybody knows he lives in Miram Shah. Why don't the Pakistanis arrest him?"

And, for a close-to-home example as to why Ha’aretz’s prominence in Western media outlets is our problem, readers may recall the July 30 column in this newspaper by Ha’aretz writer Gideon Levy (“If the Situation Were Reversed?). The column, which originally appeared in the July 18 issue of Ha’aretz, was filled with factual errors, both substantive and incidental.

Levy claimed that Golda Meir “said that after what the Nazis did to us, we can do whatever we want.?

Challenged for a source for the virulent quote, Levy acknowledged in an Aug. 12 e-mail he had none.

“Therefore we dropped the quotation in the original version in Hebrew and by mistake it was printed in the English version,? he stated.

Neither CAMERA nor the editor of The Jewish Journal were able to obtain a correction from Levy or Ha’aretz.

The Iran Question
Officially, Israel does not see Iran as an enemy, but rather as an existential threat. With no common border, Iran's military does not pose a serious conventional threat. The extremist and hostile mullahs have opted for going straight to a plan to annihilate the Jewish state. To do this they are developing rockets that can hit the country one day with nuclear warheads, not to mention fomenting hatred of the "Zionist regime" in the Arab world as they try to export their Islamic revolution.

Iran is the only country that openly calls for wiping the Jewish state "off the face of the earth." It tries to undermine and indeed halt all peace efforts between Israel and our Arab neighbors through terrorist proxies like Hizbullah in Lebanon and an increasing number of Palestinian terror groups.

"They want the bomb and will do everything they can to get the bomb," says one senior Israeli security source. "They are not crazy, but they do have an irrational streak and are very calculated. They do not take any spontaneous actions or actions out of context. History has shown that rogue nations tend to use diplomacy as a cover while they complete their work," he says.
