Veils in the courtroom
A judge in Detroit threw out a Muslim woman's lawsuit because she refused to remove her niqab - an eyes-only face veil - in order to to testify.
Ginnah Muhammad, 42, was contesting a 2,750-dollar fine by a hire car firm for damage to a vehicle. Judge Paul Paruk told her he needed to see her face to assess whether she was telling the truth and said that if she did not remove the niqab while testifying the case would be thrown out. Muhammad refused to comply.

Paruk told the Detroit Free Press that he had offered to let her wear her niqab in the courtroom, except when testifying, adding "I felt I was trying to accommodate her as best I could."

Muhammad, who was born in the US and converted to Islam at the age of ten, said she felt sad. "I feel that the court is there for justice for us. I don't feel that the court recognised me as a person that needed justice. I feel I can't trust the court" she concluded.
And how can the court trust you, Ms Muhammad, when the court can't even see you?

'The silence about Muhammad al-Dura's death shows Israel still does not understand the war of images'
Read Caroline Glick's excellent column, Prime-time blood libels. The previous Israeli ambassador to Greece used to make me cringe anytime I saw him on television, the man should not have been a diplomat. In Greece, where antisemitism and anti-Israel sentiments run high, and where journalists call Greek Jews "murderers" on the morning news show, the Israeli ambassador has an extra-tough job. The consul was either overwhelmed or did not realize how deep Jewhatred runs and I think that's true for Israel, as a country. As much as Israel and Israelis wish to live their lives in peace and quiet like every other nation in the world, the unfortunate reality is that no other nation has to deal with such psychotic hatred from the rest of the world - although America is getting a taste of what Israel has been battling for ages.
Israel's continued silence is a sign that Israeli officialdom has still not understood what the war of images demands of it. The Dura film, like the fictional massacre of Lebanese children at Kafr Kana in Lebanon this summer, shows that victory or defeat in wars is today largely determined on television. To win, Israel must go on the offensive and attack untruthful, distorted images that are used to justify the killing of Israelis and Jews throughout the world.

When Karsenty heard the court's verdict last week, he said, "If this judgment is upheld, Jews should ask themselves questions about their future in France. Justice covers the anti-Semitic lies of a public channel. It's a strong signal, it is very severe."

To this it should be added that if the Israeli government continues to be silent as the good name of the IDF, of Israel and of the Jewish people is dragged through the mud by distorted television images broadcast by foreign news outlets; if the Israeli government does nothing to defend those who are persecuted for fighting against these distortions, then Jews will have to ask themselves some questions about how on earth we are supposed to defend ourselves, let alone win this war against those who seek our destruction.

The price of his idea
An old man in a cell, clutching a Bible and recounting, one by one, all the mistakes in his life. A struggling man, worn down by the realisation of a life of mistaken belief and error. A thoughtful man in a journey of self discovery blessed by a hand in hand walk with his Jesus, my Jesus, your Jesus, a Jesus that touches the most un-expected of people.

I wish this man well in his quest and endeavour, in his time of deep sorrow and inner crusade. This is his true Jihad.

“October 18 (Compass Direct News) – A Muslim sheikh jailed in Egypt for 18 months has declared from his prison cell that he is under arrest for “insulting Islam” by becoming a Christian.
Egypt’s secret police transferred Bahaa el-Din Ahmed Hussein el-Akkad, 57, to the Wadi el-Natroun Prison last month. He was told he would remain there indefinitely unless he agreed to work as a government informer against other converts to Christianity.
According to the prisoner’s Cairo attorney, Athanasius William, his client remains incarcerated in this desert prison “only because he has chosen a different belief, to be a Christian.”
El-Akkad was imprisoned without charges for more than a year after officials of the State Security Investigation (SSI) arrested him in Cairo on April 6, 2005.
Although subjected to repeated interrogations, the former Muslim was never told the specific accusations against him. But several of his cellmates spread rumors that he was converting and baptizing people into Christianity, sparking verbal abuse and at least one severe beating from a fellow prisoner.”
