Ontario Premier: Hell no, we won't go
If he did this five years ago, it would be an act of shocking political courage. Today it's just common sense. I'd like to praise him, but really I'm shocked it ever got this far. Besides, he's banning all religious arbitration, not just the totalitarian Shari'ah but Jewish and Catholic arbitration as well, which Ontarians have enjoyed since 1991. He took the cop-out, not the principled stand. It shouldn't be that hard to say that Shari'ah's edicts contradict the rights of Canadian citizens, and shari'ah is ineligible for elevation to the status of an alternative legal system as long as Canada's constitution means anything. It's not like it's any secret to Islamists why he's doing this-they know they're the target. So who is he trying to avoid offending? Why throw the baby out with the bathwater?

Do you want to know why I hate the press so much?
I would love to tell you the names of the nasty sons o' bitches I used to work for in the press. Alas, they got lawyers. Let me just say, I worked for the largest newspaper in a western state, and none of the actual editors and reporters in that newspaper were from the state they reported. They were all from a very liberal upper midwestern state. The following incident reminds me of why it is that journalists suck. Exhibit (somewhere in the middle of the alphabet)

Bianca the Negotiator
Wouldn't it be nice if actors would stick with making movies, musicians would stick with playing music, and ex-wives of celebrities would just keep on jet-setting rather than showing the world how stupid they can be? Bianca Jagger has travelled to Iran to open a "dialogue" between the mullahs and the U.S. administration. She complains that she has to walk "a narrow line" between condemning "illegal war, regime change and pre-emptive strikes" and discussing "human rights issues such as the death penalty, women's rights and civil liberties." Notice that she reserves the condemnation for the U.S. since apparently there's nothing to condemn in Iran, all is needed is some discussion to stop the stonings and hangings of little boys and girls and to restore civil liberties to people who live in a theocracy.

Chinese Cosmetics
This is unbelievable: I don't know if there's any truth to this story, but the Guardian charges that a Chinese cosmetics firm is using the skin of executed convicts in its products.

A Question of Race
According to a poll, sixty percent of black Americans believe the federal government was slow to respond to the people stranded in New Orleans because most of the population there was black. Only twelve percent of white Americans thought the same thing. Yesterday, cba did a guest post about the movie "Crash" and it brought up the question, do Americans really think in terms of race? I heard a CNN reporter say "...these people are so poor and so black..." What does that mean? Please explain racism to this immigrant who is used to stupidity from people but not to colour discrimination.

And btw, I was proud of our president today: Bush: the buck stops here.

The Lords Of The Utter Ignorance
Update: got scooped by Frank IBC
Nearly one third of Germans under 30 say that the U.S. government ordered the 9/11 attacks. In France, a book insisting that Americans carried out the assault themselves to increase defense budgets becomes a huge bestseller. In Britain, major newspapers carry headlines like "The USA is Now the World's Leading Rogue State."

Asked which countries are the biggest threat to world peace, Europeans name the U.S as often as North Korea and Iran (each are picked by 53 percent). Countries characterized by Euros as less menacing than the U.S. include Syria, Iraq, Russia, China, Afghanistan, Libya. As one American living in Britain, Anglican minister Dwight Longenecker, summarizes: "Our cultural ancestors have become unrecognizable, even hostile, to us."
Europe Learns the Wrong Lessons

No wonder those europeans with a brain are moving to America.

Burning and Looting
The whole world, led by the media, rushed to condemn the burning of synagogues in Gaza (in some other reality and planet). Meanwhile on Earth: International Media Justify Synagogue Burnings.
