Everything is hunky-dory in Abdullahland
Saudi king Abdullah instructed newspaper editors to stop printing photos of women in articles as to not lead the youth astray. I can see his point, I'm sure many youths have been led astray by pictures of black tents. Abdullah also instructed the editors to not print anything negative about Saudi Arabia and not reprint any stories from the foreign press that are critical of Islam or Arabs.

And this guy is thought to be a "reformer". Uh-huh.

Bush Guard-to-Border move is a stunt: Frum
David Frum nails the true essence of Bush's move to guard the border with troops from the National Guard: it's a publicity stunt, not an honest effort. He goes on to speculate convincingly that Bush might prefer a Democratic Congress so he can actually have a domestic legacy. In other words, Bush wouldn't mind if his party lost the upcoming elections.
When the Bush administration fitfully attempts to enforce the immigration laws, it looks for measures that meet four criteria:

They must be 1) spectacular; 2) expensive; 3) unsustainable; and 4) ineffective.

The proposal to deploy the National Guard to the border meets all four!

This plan won't work, and it is not seriously meant to work. It's supposed to look dramatic and buy the president some respite from negative polls - and then it is supposed to fail, strengthening the administration's case for its truly preferred approach: amnesty guestworkers.

If there is one truth about immigration that should have been learned since the last amnesty it is: The immigration laws cannot be enforced at the border. They have to be enforced in the interior space of the country. Create an accessible, reliable system for employers to confirm the legal status of their employees; require employers to use it; check compliance; and punish cheaters - that's what you have to do to enforce the law. If don't do that, you can send the National Guard to occupy Mexico City or dig a moat along the Rio Grande and fill it with man-eating alligators, and it won't matter: Your enforcement will fail

Putting the Guard on the border is a symbolic act. If that action symbolized a genuine new commitment to enforce the law, then it would be a good and valuable thing to do. But I am afraid that in this case, the symbolism is manipulative and deceptive.

The administration has no intention of enforcing the law. It believes that law enforcement is futile and counter-productive. That's the president's sincere, conscientious view, and he is of course entitled to it. When he argues for it openly and candidly, as he has done in the past, one can disagree - but one has to respect his conviction and courage.

Aww, poor Wardy!
A University of Colorado committee found serious cases of misconduct in Ward "Little Eichmanns" Churchill's academic research, including plagiarism, falsifications and fabrications. One member of the committee recommended that Churchill be fired and the other four recommended that he be suspended from his position. Churchill's wife, who also teaches at the UC Ethnic Studies department, resigned from her job, accusing the university of treating Churchill unfairly (among her other complaints). Churchill has said he would sue if he got fired but what would he sue for? Not being allowed to lie and cheat in his research?

MI5 infiltrated by Al Qaeda
I think it's totally clear at this point that the Anglosphere's intelligence agencies, be they American or British, are total fucking morons.
TERRORISTS from al-Qaeda have infiltrated Britain's security services, the Sunday Mirror can reveal.

Bosses at M15 believe they unwittingly recruited the Muslim extremists after the July 7 suicide bombings in London last year which killed 52 people.

They were signed up as part of a drive to find more Muslims and Arabic speakers to work as spies to help prevent future attacks by Osama bin Laden fantatics.

Spymasters found some of the agents in Britain's universities and colleges and persuaded them to pass on information about suspected terrorists.

But a senior ministerial source has told the Sunday Mirror: "The truth is that it has now been discovered that some of those people have strong links with al-Qaeda.

"There was always a risk that with such a speedy and widespread recruitment some would turn out to be bad eggs.
No! Really? No!

Where is the red line?
Does Bush actually have a red line when it comes to Iran? Or is he just willing to let revelation upon revelation about their nuclear program pile up without taking action? The recent discovery of highly-enriched uranium traces by the IAEA, and the Bush administration's failure to seize upon this smoking gun, tells me that Bush is basically not willing to do anything other than talk. We may as well accept that the Islamic Republic will be joining Pakistan as a nuclear Islamic Republic soon.

Israel certainly won't do anything with Neville Olmert in charge. And Bush seems to be unwilling to cross China and Russia, who are nakedly grasping at the opportunity to thumb Uncle Sam in the eye and help our enemies. I wonder whether China or Russia would go to all this trouble in the Security Council before going to war with someone...would China or Russia be begging the US, France, and Britain for their approval before imposing sanctions on an enemy? Don't make me laugh. We constrain ourselves like Gulliver to the whims of these Lilliputians who would never put themselves in the same position. What's the point of this bullshit? Now we're backing a carrots to Iran strategy in order to get the hostile Chinese and Russians to agree to sanctions. Can we agree already that the two countries hate America, have hundreds of billions of dollars in deals with the mullahs, and will under no circumstance agree to sanctions? Can we agree that Iran has been refusing every warmed-over overture and limp respectful submission that doesn't explicitly give them the right to nuke Tel Aviv? Or must we insist on playing the world's fool until we take a nuclear pratfall?

Let's not ever forget that Pakistan finally became a nuclear power in 1998, after years of failure, because CHINA supplied it with centrifuge designs and uranium enrichment technology and nuclear bomb designs and missile technology. Flagrantly violating its obligations under the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty, and getting away with it, and planning on getting away with it again in the case of Iran. In Pakistan's case, the purpose was to hurt India, which China regards as an enemy. In Iran's case?

Well, it certainly can't be Israel that China wants to harm. Connect the dots.

If Bush is unwilling or unable to prevent Iran from obtaining the bomb, he should resign now.
