Keep track of your Bloggie conversations
Fabulous new Bloggie toy! Now you can keep track of the threads you've participated in by visiting the mythreads page. The link will be available in the "search & handy links" area whenever you want it. The "since you" number is temporarily inaccurate because it counts from the first comment you left and not the last one; I'll fix that soon. Bug fixed! Enjoy! :-)

New Indians
A growing number of Americans identify themselves as Native Americans. Are they doing it to gain financial benefits, such as university scholarships, free health insurance or income from casinos, or are they doing it because they're looking for spirituality and a sense of belonging?
Little Dove is just one of thousands of people in the United States who are becoming Indians. The government's official grouping of "Native Americans" is an extremely fast growing minority: between 1960 and 2000 it grew by 640 percent. More than 4 million Americans now describe themselves as Native American, which cannot be explained by the birth rate alone. Much of the growth is due to people like Betty Baker changing their ethnicity.
Going Native in America: The Benefits of Becoming Indian.

Franklin gets 12½ in the clink
A judge sentenced former Pentagon analyst Larry Franklin to 12½ years in prison today for giving classified information to lobbyists from AIPAC in order to raise the alarm about the danger that Iran posed. He should definitely have been fired, but should he really go to prison? Especially considering that he was essentially breaking the law in order to do the right thing?

He's going into prison at 58 or 59 (the article text and a photo caption are in contradiction about it) and will be over 70 when he gets out. I think this is clearly a case where President Bush should pardon him before leaving office.

'The authority on genocide is silent'
A group of American Jewish activists, "Holocaust Museum Watch", wants the US Holocaust Memorial Museum to recognize the anti-Semitic actions by Arab and Muslim leaders during World War II. The museum has never had an exhibit or event dealing with Muslim anti-Semitism or with the fate of the Jews in Arab countries during the Holocaust. Is it because of governmental political pressure or is it an oversight on the Museum's part?
The demand is focused on three issues: the cooperation of Jerusalem's grand mufti, Haj Amin al-Husseini, with the Nazi regime; the anti-Jewish pogroms in Arab countries during World War II, mainly the Farhud in Baghdad; and the current rise of anti-Semitism in the Arab and Muslim world.

Husseini's ties with Nazi Germany are well known - he met with Adolf Eichmann and offered Hitler any help he could supply in murdering Europe's Jews and Jews worldwide. His actions are not mentioned at all in the Holocaust museum.

Emperor Hugo of The Americas
Chavez said that the U.S. was trying to prevent South American unity and that Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela would aid Bolivia with loans, road construction and public health.
Hugo Chavez's megalomania has reached new heights-he now presumes to spend the foreign aid budgets of Brazil and Argentina. If any doubts remained in your mind that Brazil's Lula was committed to Chavez's deluded dreams, let them rest. He is. Argentina's Nestor Kirchner is likewise "proud" of his radical leftist past. And they all seem to be orbiting Chavez. What a delight.
